SEASON 2015 - 2016
Saturday March 26 - 2016
Under 12D League: Piltown B 3 Villa C 4
Rain and wind welcomed us to picturesque Kildalton. With both squads depleted to a starting nine plus a sub this was only our eighth outing of weather disrupted season. Despite the conditions the twenty odd participants put on a stirring display for their respective clubs.
The visitors were twice a goal down with Ben Quigley and Ryan Hodge restoring parity before the break.
With the aid on the prevailing wind the away team went ahead through a smart finish from man-of-the-match Stephenson Mbu only to be pegged back by the home team's impressive response. Not to be denied the Villa lads hit back to edge a seven goal thriller when just off the bench Ben Prendergast scored a breathtaking winner with his first touch.
Both teams deserve high praise for their efforts in testing circumstances which bodes well for the reminder of the season.
Match Day Squad: Reece Dunphy Jones, James Vaughan, Kalid Nasser Harib, Ben Quigley (Capt.), Cian Waddell, Ryan Hodge, Ryan Stringer, Ben Prendergast, Adam Browne, Stephenson Mbu.

Under 11C League
We were away to De La Salle on Saturday last and put in a great performance in blustery cold conditions. Both of our teams played some excellent football and continue to improve with each game. Scorers were Niall Curham, Diego Hartnett, Daniel Goff, Mikey Carroll and Evan O’ Mahony.

Under 13B League
In very tough weather conditions, this was a very difficult game for both teams. Playing against a very strong breeze in the first half we were soon down 1 - 0 . The lads rallied very well, with 2 quick goals from Ross Delahunty. Just before half time Ben Roche scored a terrific goal and keelan Furlong added another one to go in at the break 4-1 up. The second half was mainly played in the Bohs half due to the strong breeze, Matus Grinious and Tony Ebhouney scored a goal apiece to finish out the match. Best for the Villa Danny Hagan, Cain Dunphy, Jamie and Shane Gaffney

SFAI U'15 Cup - Villa 6 Borris St. Kevins (South Tipp) 2
Our under 15A side booked their place in the last 32 of the SFAI cup on Saturday last with an emphatic win over a determined South Tipp side Borris St Kevins.
We started the game at a high tempo and our visitors found it difficult to get to grips with our pace and we were justly rewarded on the 7 minute mark when Liam Barber rose highest in the middle of the field to win a header from a goal kick and powered the ball onto Mike Nzongong who in turn flicked the ball onto Greg Waters who placed the ball over the advancing keeper to put us into the lead, we kept the pressure high and were awarded a free kick 6 minutes later and some quick thinking from Niall O’Keeffe saw him release Cameron Power down the left wing and the resulting cross found Mike in the box and he showed great strength to hold off a defender and the goalkeeper to finish from close range and put us 2 clear. Mike got his second assist of the day when he was found with a quick throw in by Shane O’Neill and after some good link up play with Harry Lawton he crossed to find Greg in front of the goal who made no mistake to put us 3 clear, Greg secured his hat trick just before the break when he towered above the defence to head home a cross from Niall and leave us 4 clear at halftime. Our visitors started the second half in a determined fashion and got their reward on the 8 minute mark when they capitalised on defensive mix up between the otherwise faultless Timi Sobowala, Niall McSweeney and Tega Agberhiere when a loose ball was latched onto by an advancing midfielder who powered a shot passed Josh Kelly in goal who despite getting a hand to it couldn’t keep it out of the net, we restored our 4 goal advantage just past the hour mark when Caleb Cuozzo broke down the right and found Daniel Hannigan who unselfishly crossed to the far post to Eimhin McEvoy who got his first goal for the club with the easiest of finishes after a perfectly timed run from deep. Some quick thinking by our visitors saw them get their second when from the kick off they spotted Josh off his goal line and a well struck shot from the halfway line left him stranded and gave our opponents a glimmer of hope but that was quickly quashed when some excellent play down the left wing from Rory Furlong and John Fredrick Tamen resulted in a cross that found Mike who finished it in great style to restore our 4 goal lead and finish the scoring for the afternoon.

Under 12D League: Ferrybank C 3 Villa C 1
A well contested first half saw the teams tied at one apiece, Cian Waddell having broken the deadlock midway through with a smart finish having beaten the offside trap. The home team restored parity within minutes and sealed the points with the winner coming after a contentious moment early in the second half. The resulting reshuffle could not prevent a third shortly afterwards.
Despite this the visitors refused to give it up and remained competitive to the final whistle. A strong squad performance against the division table-toppers.

Under 12D League: Villa C 3 - Carrick Utd 3
Our first home game of the season saw us in St Otterans for this 2.30 pm KO. Conditions were perfect for football and what followed was an keenly contested contest between two motivated and competitive squads of 11-year-old's. Villa took the lead midway through the first half with a smart finish from Cian Waddell. The visitors evened thing up before the break.
Villa opened a two goal lead with a brace early in the second half, firstly when Sakib Hossain was quickest to react at the back post and two minutes later when Ben Prendergast found the top corner with a well struck volley. Carrick never gave it up and took advantage of some good fortune to restore parity inside the allotted hour.
Honours even, smiles & hand-shakes all round.
Match Day Squad: Malachy Shule, James Vaughan, Cormac Kearney (Capt), Ryan Stringer, Kalid Nasser Harib, Ben Quigley, Cian Waddell, Luke O'Toole, Ryan Hodge, Stephenson Mbu, Ben Prendergast, Sakib Hossain, Adam Browne, Jason Hawan.

Under 11 A Mitchell Kennedy Cup Final - Villa 2 Southend Utd 3 (After Extra Time)
There was heartbreak for our Under 11 A side on Saturday morning last when despite a fantastic performance we went down 3-2 after extra time to Southend in the Mitchell Kennedy Cup Final played in Graun Park Tramore.
We started brightly and were never under pressure in the opening minutes ,and when Southend finally had their first chance Ethan Hayes pulled off a great save after 10 minutes, Moments later Shane Keenan was put through by Scott Searson ,but his shot went left and wide, Shane turned provider in the 15th minute but Eoin Morrissey saw his well taken effort go over the bar.
Southend came more into the match in the 2nd half , but our defence was rock solid , mid way through Matas Grinious was denied by the Southend keeper who save well from his great shot from just outside the box, however with just 10 minutes left and against the run of play Southend took the lead after a defensive mix up.
We battled hard in the closing minutes and with just 4 minutes remaining Shane was brought down in the box and Hugo Monro stepped up to blast the equaliser from the spot kick.
We took control of the 1st period of extra time and came so close to taking the lead when Callum Hennessey’s superb shot rattled the crossbar and moments later Eoin saw his great half volley go just over, but right on the stroke on half time disaster struck when Southend were awarded and converted a penalty to put them back in control.
2-1 soon became 3-1 early in the second period of extra time when a defensive slip up allowed Southend through to score a 3rd, however we never gave up and there was still time for the goal of the match when Conon Fanning struck a superb shot to the back of the net with just 2 minutes left, but try as we might we couldn't find another goal.
Losing a cup final is never easy to take, but we can take some consolation in the fact that we played some superb football and surely the future is bright for this team.
Our thanks to the great crowd of Family ,friends and Club members who came out to support the lads , to the host club Tramore for the superb facilities and finally Congratulations to Southend.

Under 11 A League - Carrick 2 - Villa 3
We completed our league campaign on Monday evening last week and finished on a high coming back from 2-0 down at half time to run out 3-2 winners, with goals from Kyle Coughlan early in the 2nd half and then Tom Cassidy equalised with just 6 minutes to go when Scott Searson`s shot was blocked and Toms long range shot just managed to squeeze under the Carrick goalkeeper,
And then with just 2 minutes left the ball broke to Scott who calmly slotted home the winner through a crowded goalmouth.

Under 14A League
Our under 14A squad travelled to Dungarvan on Friday night last for their fourteenth and final league match of the current campaign and recorded their fourteenth league victory finishing with a rare but well deserved 100% record.
We started the better of the two sides but struggled to break down our hosts who battled hard throughout the encounter but once we started to play our own brand of passing football we got our just reward with our opening score coming from Panis Mungenga quickly followed with a second from Daniel Hannigan and a third from John Fredrick Tamen to send us in at the break three up.
We started the second half as we finished the first on the front foot and were soon rewarded when Mike Nzongong scored our fourth quickly followed with a well deserved fifth from Harry Lawton while Liam Barber also added his name to the score sheet from a well worked corner, Panis and Daniel both scored their second of the night before the final whistle to round off the scoring.
It must be said that although many teams have gone through a league campaign unbeaten it is very rare and a great achievement for a squad to play all their league games and win all those games, the only side to have beaten the lads this season was Belvedere FC who credited our match as their toughest en route to the final and they went on to be crowned national under 14 champions, this says a lot for the hard work and effort the entire squad put in throughout the season for which the coaching staff thank each of them for their efforts and also a big thank you must go to the parents and guardians of the lads for transporting and supporting the boys.
Squad:
Josh Kelly, Niall McSweeney, Tega Agberhiere, Timi Sobowale, Liam Barber, Shane O’Neill, Panis Mungenga, Greg Waters, Daniel Hannigan, Harry Lawton, John Fredrick Tamen, Mike Nzongong, Niall O’Keeffe, Cameron Power, Rory Furlong, Mateo Moreno and a special thanks to Ruari Fitzpatrick and Daragh Power who stepped in to help out during the season to cover for injuries

U'11A - Villa 0 Ferrybank 0 (Villa won 2-0 on penalties)
This one went all the way on Saturday morning last when it took a penalty shoot out to separate our 11 A team from the newly crowned league champions Ferrybank in Cup Semi-Final at Connors Park.
Despite being dealt an early blow when Shane Keenan was injured after just 5 minutes we enjoyed the best of the first half ,and came close to breaking the deadlock after 7 minutes when Eoin Morrissey made a great run down the right and found Kyle Coughlan in the box ,but Kyle’s shot went just wide. 2 minutes later Scott Searson found Kyle with a great pass but this time the Ferrybank keeper denied Kyle with a fine save. The Visitors came more into the game in the 2nd half and it took a fine save from Ethan Hayes in the opening minute of the 2nd period to keep the sides level.
Matas Grinious looked to have broken the deadlock in the 7th minute of the second half ,but his net bound shot was superbly saved by the Ferrybank goal keeper. Soon after we lost the ever threatening Eoin Morrissey to injury, but his replacement Conor Fanning almost grabbed a winner in the final action of normal time ,but his snap shot went just wide. Despite extra time the two teams could not be separated and so it went to the dreaded Penalty shoot out.
Hugo Monro was first up for Villa and made no mistake smashing the ball to the right of the goal, Ethan then saved Ferrybank`s first spot kick to give us the advantage, Next up Scott Searson made no mistake to make it 2-0 and when Ferrybank`s second penalty went wide the game was over and we secured our place in this years Under 11 Cup Final. Another great battling performance from the lads and the wild celebrations at the end of the game was proof of just how much reaching the final meant to the entire team.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A brave and committed performance by the Villa D team saw them take the Tramore C team all the way to extra-time with the two teams locked at nil-all after 50 minutes. Two periods of 10-minutes followed with the winning score coming from a last minute corner. A superb finish from the visiting centre forward brought heartbreak for the gallant losers. A valuable lesson learned.
U'15A League - Ferrybank 0 Villa 3
We travelled to Ferrybank looking for a point to secure the league title. Playing into a stiff wind in the first half we had a great change to take the lead after 20 minutes when Kieran Sadey beat two players only to put his shot wide. Ferrybank had plenty of possession but were kept to a few long range shots and frees from a well marshalled defence where our central pairing of Greg Waters and Aidan Gannon were in fine form. We got the crucial goal before half time when Lennon Forsey struck from inside the box 5 minutes before half time.
We started the second half very well with Jason Goldsmith and Luke Kervick controlling midfield. We extended our lead 10 minutes into the second half when Ben Curham broke down the left and pulled the ball back for Kieran Sadey to score from close range. The 3 points and title were secured when Lennon played in Oisin Knox who made no mistake from inside the area. Well done to Nicky, Frank, Kevin and all the squad on a great title.

Thursday April 18 - 2015
Following on from securing the league title our under 14A side travelled to Dungarvan to start their quest to win the cup and secure an elusive double with a powerful display against a determined Dungarvan side. We started fast and put our hosts under pressure from the kick off and got our just reward on the 15 minute mark when a long ball from Liam Barber was spilled by the home keeper who was put under pressure by Cameron Power and his cross was deflected into the net by an unlucky defender, our second came just 3 minutes later after some great work on the right wing by Shane O’Neill and Panis Mungenga found Greg Waters free on the edge of the box and he drilled an unstoppable shot to the corner of the net to double our lead, Greg got his second and our third before the break when he headed home an expertly delivered corner from Niall O’Keeffe.
We started the second half as we finished the first and were rewarded after just 3 minutes when we latched onto a short kick out from the home team and Greg fed the ball through to the onrushing Daniel Hannigan who made no mistake to put us 4 clear, Cameron Power deservedly scored our fifth when he slotted the ball home from a low driven cross from Greg, Mike Nzongong added his name to the score sheet on the 54th minute when he went on a mazing dribble through the home defence and coolly slotted the ball into the corner of the net, Daniel got his second of the night when he beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper to put us 7 clear, goal of the night came from John Fredrick Tamen when he found himself unmarked on the edge of the box and he curled a pinpoint left foot chip over the onrushing keeper to finish off the scoring for the night in some style.
While our hosts were kept to a few speculative shots and a couple of free kicks our defence of Harry Lawton, Niall McSweeney, Timi Sobowala and Tega Agberhiere who were well marshalled by Josh Kelly in goal kept their concentration levels high and ensured the home side were left empty handed at the final whistle. All the squad and coaches wish all the best and a speedy recovery to Mateo Moreno who’s season was cut short through injury

U'11A Cup - Villa 3 Carrick Utd 0
Despite missing several players our Under 11A team stormed into the Semi-Final of the cup with an impressive performance against Carrick United in Connors park last Saturday morning. After a confident start, our first real chance came in the 3rd minute when some great play between Hugo Monro and Shane Keenan saw Shane’s well taken shot go just left and wide, Kyle Coughlan was next to try his luck in the 7th minute when his skillful take down and shot flew just wide with the keeper well beaten. Carrick had a chance a minute later on the break ,but Scott Searson was alert and saved well with his feet to keep the sides level, but the goal our play deserved finally arrived in the 10th minute when Kyle made a great run wide on the left and his great cross found Eoin Morrissey who confidently side footed the ball to the back of the net from close range.
If our first goal was the result of some great play then our 2nd was the complete opposite when Callum Hennessy came to meet a clearance from a corner and his shot from just over the half way line somehow crept under the Carrick keeper to make it 2-0. Our 3rd goal came just before half time when Shane beat 2 defenders wide on the left before cutting in and drilling an unstoppable shot past the advancing keeper. Tom Cassidy almost grabbed a 4th just on the stroke of half time but his clever shot from distance was well saved.
We played with the aid of a very strong wind in the 2nd half ,however there were no further goals despite another great effort from Tom and a well taken free kick from the ever reliable Hugo Monro , which were both well saved. So a fantastic performance and a great win from all the 10 players available to us last Saturday morning, Scott Searson, Tom Cassidy ,Donnacha Fitzpatrick, Callum Hennessy, Shane Keenan , Eoin Morrissey, Hugo Monro , Mata Grinious ,Kyle Coughlan and Conor Fanning.

U'11E League - Villa D 2 Tramore C 4
Second visit to Connors Park in 48 hours, this time to face a very talented Tramore C team, who were second in the table. The first half was tightly contested between the two teams and the scores remained level at half time. The second half started off with a bang with Tramore scoring just after the restart. The home side replied shortly after with a well worked goal beginning with good link-up play between Ben Quigley and Luke O'Toole finished off by striker Ryan Hodge.
A mad five minutes saw us go 4-1 down after Tramore's outstanding number 10 (Daniel) orchestrating their well worked goals. The Villa squad didn't give up the fight.Stephenson Mbu collected the ball in the middle of the park and dribbled his way to goal and finished emphatically to make the score 4-2 at the final whistle. A very competitive showing from the Villa side today confirms how far they have come as a team. We play against the same Tramore side in the Cup on Saturday next. With a full squad available we can get a result.
Match Day Squad: Reece Dunphy Jones, James Vaughan, Cormac Kearney(Capt),, Ben Quigley, Luke O'Toole, Ryan Hodge, Ryan Stringer, Sakib Hossain, Adam Browne, Jason Hawan, Stephenson Mbu.

U'11E League - Villa D 4 Park Ranger B 0
Connors Park was the setting for this evening kick off Thursday last where the home side got the better of a young and talented Park Rangers squad. Villa scored two goals either side of half time, with Ryan Hodge taking his two goals well in the first half. Luke O'Toole scored with his first touch after coming back on midway through the second half and Sakib Hossain opening his account for the season when his disciplined play down the left presented him with an opportunity to put the game beyond the visitors. Great performance by the whole squad.

U'11A League - Villa 3-1 Ferrybank
Our Under 11 A Team served up a great win over the champions elect last Saturday morning in Connors Park ,with a top class performance from start to finish. We attacked straight from the first whistle and had our first chance on target after just 25 seconds when Tony Ebhonuaye tried his luck from distance ,but his fine effort was well saved. Ferrybank came close to opening the scoring when their free kick clipped the crossbar after 8 minutes ,but from then on it was all Villa.
Despite playing some great football it took until the 18th minute for our next chance when Matas Grinious and Scott Searson combined well and Scott’s rasping shot was cleared off the line, but the breakthrough finally came from the resulting corner when Matas found Tony who poked the ball home from close range. However our lead only lasted for 4 minutes when Ferrybank scored just before the break with a well work shot corner. Scott came close at the start of the second half with a well struck free kick which went just wide ,but we finally regained the lead 7 minutes into the half when Scott floated another excellent free kick in from the left and Rory Dobbyn managed to steer the ball to the net despite the keepers best efforts.
Scott had another chance soon after with a great shot from distance that went just wide, soon after Eoin Morrissey and Shane Keenan played some superb football to put Hugo Monro in on goal but his shot went left and wide ,but our 3rd goal finally arrived with just 7 minutes to go when a clearance from a corner fell to Eoin who made no mistake drilling home an unstoppable shot.
So a superb 3-1 win and a great team performance from each and every player on the pitch.

U'14A League - Bohemians 0 Villa 2
We made our shortest of away trips to our near neighbours on Thursday evening last and even though we gave a substandard performance we came away with all three points after battling well against a well drilled and determined home side.
Both teams cancelled each other out for the majority of the first half with our best work coming down the left wing from Cameron Power and Tega Agberhiere who linked up superbly throughout the game while our best chances of opening the scoring fell to Greg Waters who drew a fine save from the home goalkeeper and Mike Nzongong who was unlucky to see a shot deflected, Timi Sobowala produced a couple of fine saves of his own to keep his third clean sheet in a row and ensured we went in level at the break.
We started the second half much better and got the lead after some quick thinking from a free kick on the left wing by Cameron and Tega produced a fine cross into the box to find Mike unmarked who made no mistake and drilled the ball into the corner of the net. We started to control the game from then on and restricted our hosts to a couple of long range chances while we kept the tempo high and forced them onto the back foot, we got our just reward when a corner was delivered expertly by Niall O'Keeffe onto the head of Mike who gave the keeper no chance with a perfectly placed header to put us two clear with his second and finish off the scoring for the night.

U'15A League - Villa 3 Ballinroad 1
We played Ballinroad on Saturday in Connor’s Park and after a good second half display we took the 3 points and a step closer to retaining the league title. In the first half Ballinroad put up a good performance to keep the score at 0-0 with Villa not taking any of the few chances that came our way. A much better second half saw Villa create a lot more chances and the first goal came when Lee O’Connor went on a great run down the right hand side for Oisin Knox to head home. Our second came 10 minutes later when Ben Curham done brilliant on the left to beat the full back and put in a super cross to Lee who had time to compose himself and place the ball past the Ballinroad keeper. In fairness to Ballinroad they kept battling and got their just rewards when they broke through and scored a good goal to get themselves back into it. Lee O’Connor then made the 3 points safe when he went on an amazing run down the right and after beating 2 defenders cut inside and calmly drove the ball to the back of the net. Well done to all 13 players involved today and a speedy recovery to Callum Russell who sustained a bad injury to his knee in the last minute of the game.

U'16B League - Villa 4 Portlaw 1
Villa welcomed top-of-the-table Portlaw to Connors Park last Thursday night for a 16B league clash. Our squad turned in what was probably our best display of the season to beat our opponents comprehensively at the end of a competitive encounter. Alvin Johnson broke through our opponents’ defence early on and was taken down for a clear penalty. Lennan Forsey neatly converted from the spot. Daragh Wall added to our lead to leave us two nil up at the break. James (Tyres) Kennedy had made two excellent saves in the first period to keep us in contention.
Our back three of Dan Scanlon, Conor Signorelli and Cathal Cheasty held our opponents at bay for most of the contest. Luke Kervick, Lennan Forsey, Owen Mackey, Jack Kennedy & Kieran Sadey played really well across the middle of the park. Up front Daragh Wall and man-of-the-match Alvin Johnson really stretched our opponents throughout the eighty minutes.
We went three nil up when Alvin converted and substitute Davin Collopy completed the scoring after our opponents had pulled one back. Great team effort from the entire squad considering that coaches Derek & John had tried a new formation for the first time.

U'11E League - Villa D 1 Ferrybank C 2
Connors Park was the venue for this early kick-off, 10.30 am, meeting between two enthusiastic teams intent on securing the points. The visitors had the best of the early exchanges and went ahead when an intended clearance by a Villa defender unfortunately found the home net. Disappointment was obvious when Ferrybank went two up soon afterwards. This time with a well-struck shot to the keepers left. Not to be deterred the home team battled back and scored a fine team goal finished by Ben Quigley with a sweet volley to the top corner after great approach play down the right by Ryan Hodge.
The squad regrouped at half-time and set about redressing the balance. The ebb and flow continued for the duration but no further scores ensued. Both teams went close on a number of occasions but in the end the goal-keepers were the stars, the stand out moment being a double reflex save by goal-keeper, Reece Dunphy Jones, that kept the home team in contention. The Villa side showed terrific spirit and never gave up on their quest for an equaliser. Supporters of both clubs had great entertainment and voiced nothing but praise for the huge effort displayed by all the players.
A home match on each of the next three Saturdays at Connors Park to look forward to as we set about getting back the winning ways after meeting two of the League's high-flyers. If the team's attitude remains strong the results will follow.

U'14A League - Villa 2 Tramore 0
We welcomed Tramore to the hospital grounds on Saturday morning last on a beautiful spring morning ideal for football. This was our second game in a row against the visitors and we came out on the right side of a two nil victory yet again.
In a first half in which both teams competed for possession and chances we were fortunate to score right on the stroke of half time. A cross from the left wing by Tega Agberhiere resulted in a shot by Harry Lawton which was parried by the Tramore keeper but striker Daniel Hannigan was on hand to finish from close range.
We again tried to impose our passing game in the second half but found our opponents in the mood to press and work hard for their team. Luckily we found a second goal on 55 minutes when a free kick from distance by Niall Mc'Sweeney was headed home from close range by Mike Nzongong,
To their credit Tramore continued to battle and were rewarded with a penalty kick on 60 minutes which fortunately for us struck the crossbar.
Congratulations to our stand in keeper Timi Sobowale who kept his second clean sheet in a row. Well done to all the squad on another 3 points secured but we will have to improve for the bigger battles that lay ahead.
FAI Emerging Talent Programme
Congratulations to our squad members Cameron Power, Niall O'Keeffe, Greg Waters, Josh kelly and Timi Sobowale who have been invited back to attend the Easter training days on Monday March 30 and Tuesday March 31 at the WIT Sports Campus, Carriganore. Well done boys.
U'16A League - Villa 0 Tramore 0
A fantastic game last Friday night under lights in Connors Park between two evenly matched teams at the top of the league. Chances both ends during both halves but it finished level. Great team performances from both teams.

U'16B League - Piltown 5 Villa C 4
In a very tight and evenly contested game our Villa U16C team unfortunately came away with no points after battling well for the full 80 minutes. All 11 players on the pitch gave 100% effort but to no avail.
After going ahead in the game twice we left Piltown back into the game but responded well and rallied each time with our never say die attitude. Daragh wall battled all day and was a thorn in the Piltown defence from the whistle and bagged himself another hat-trick, with our 4th goal being added by Alvin Johnson .
Owen Mackey, playing in midfield, drove the team on all day with some pin point passes and tough tackling. Cathal Cheasty, Connor Signorelli , Kieran Saydi and captain Daniel Scanlon also playing well on the day .Great effort again by all the squad.

U'11E League - Bohs C 3 Villa D 0
Our travels brought us the short distance to Ben Wadding Park to face the team topping the table. The size of our task became apparent from the kick off but committed defence and three smart saves from our ever reliable goal-keeper kept the scores level. The status quo remained until a smart breakaway from the home team on 20 minutes left us one down at the break.
U'15A - Dungarvan 0 Villa 2
We travelled to Dungarvan on Saturday and having to dig deep we came away with the 3 points. The first half was very even with the Dungavan really putting it up to us and breaking through on a couple of occasions and only from some brilliant defending by Niall o’keeffe and goalkeeping from James kennedy we could have gone 1 down . Our first-half highlight was a super strike from LennanForsey from 25yards which rebounded off the crossbar.
We upped our game in the second half ,made some changes and changed formation and that led to us creating a lot more chances .It was Lee O’Connor who made the breakthrough with a powerful strike from just outside the box which crashed to the bottom corner of the net. Then with 5 minutes to go Lee broke down the right side and skipped past two tackles and then rounded the last defender and keeper to set up Darragh wall who tapped the ball to the open goal from inside the 6 yard box .Well done to all 14 players available and a special mention to Aidean Gannon who had a great game but had to come off with a bad injury 5 minutes from the end.
Youths
Well done to our Youth A team who secured the league with a fine victory against Ballyduff on Sunday

U'16B League - St. Saviours 0 Villa 5
Our 16C travelled away to St. Saviours and secured a comprehensive but slightly flattering victory in a well contested physical encounter. After a closely contested first quarter, Daragh Wall secured our opening goal with a neat finish after being put through by Lenan Forsey. Assisted by a strong breeze, we secured a deserved second goal before the break, again scored by sharp shooter Daragh. We expected a strong response from the home team in the second period with the conditions favouring them, and that is exactly what we got.
It was during the second half that our defenders withstood the onslaught from our opponents, with Dan Scanlon and Conor Signorelli marshalling the defence. Luke Kervick started to get on top in the middle of the park and Alvin Johnson secured another two excellent goals when introduced in the second period, leaving the home defence struggling with his exceptional pace. James (Tyres) Kennedy showed up well on the right flank when introduced from the bench.
It may seem unusual that our goalkeeper, Kieran Murphy, was our Man-Of-The- Match on a day when we scored five goals, but such were the quality of his saves in the second half that he fully deserves it. For Kieran to keep a clean sheet on the day was his best performance of the season so far.
